The Second Vatican Council has restored the meaning of Advent, changing it from a time of penance and conversion to its original goal: a time of hope and peace. In Advent we remember the coming of Christ, and we realize that He has to come more deeply into our Church and into our world. To be ready to do this, we need conversion, of course; but more especially we need hope that, despite having everything against it, this kingdom will come and be established. To deepen that hope, we have to learn to perceive the signs, which reveal to us that what we long for is already present among us. May our Lord open our eyes to perceive signs in our life and give us peace.
On this 2nd Sunday of Advent, the voice of John gives sound and meaning to the Word. With him, with John, we are all called to be witnesses of the Lord's mission. To prepare paths and streams so that the world can open itself to God. In our world tremendous amounts of money are spent to build better roads, to have better communications, but there are still many obstacles between people and between nations to communicate with each other. --- In the same way, there are still many obstacles to the effective coming of our Savior to our world. People put up barricades and controls, and we have to eliminate them, so that the mercy and freedom, justice and love of Christ reach all men.
Oh, I wish everyone could find Christ as Savior and experience God's salvation in him, and in us too. May the Lord, in this season of Advent, help us to rectify those paths that are somewhat twisted in our way of thinking, living, or existing.
May the Lord, in this season of Advent, help us to reform those points that are necessary so that, when he comes, we can present him with an irrefutable spiritual building, clean, converted, and totally turned over to his will.
El Concilio Vaticano II ha restaurado el sentido del Adviento, cambiándolo de un tiempo de penitencia y conversión a su objetivo original: un tiempo de PAZ. En Adviento recordamos la venida de Cristo, y nos percatamos de que él tiene que venir más profundamente a nuestra Iglesia y a nuestro mundo. Para disponernos a hacer esto, necesitamos conversión, naturalmente; pero más especialmente necesitamos esperanza de que, a pesar de tener todo en contra, este reino vendrá y se instaurará. Para profundizar esa paz, tenemos que aprender a percibir los signos, que nos desvelan que lo que anhelamos está ya presente entre nosotros. Que nuestro Señor abra nuestros ojos para percibir signos en nuestra vida.
En este 2º Domingo del Adviento, la voz de Juan, da sonido y sentido a la Palabra. Con él, con Juan, todos estamos llamados a ser testigos de la misión del Señor. A preparar sendas y cañadas para que, el mundo, pueda abrirse a Dios.
En nuestro mundo se gastan tremendas cantidades de dinero para construir mejores carreteras, para tener mejores comunicaciones, pero quedan todavía muchos obstáculos entre la gente y entre las naciones para comunicarse mutuamente. --- De la misma manera hay todavía muchos obstáculos para la venida eficaz de nuestro Salvador a nuestro mundo. La gente pone barricadas y controles, y nosotros tenemos que eliminarlos, para que la misericordia y libertad, la justicia y el amor de Cristo alcancen a todos los hombres. ¡Ah, ojalá todos pudieran encontrar a Cristo como Salvador y experimentar la salvación de Dios en él, y en nosotros también.
Que el Señor, en ste toiempo de adviento, nos ayude a rectificar aquellos senderos que están un tanto retorcidos en nuestra forma de pensar, vivir o existir.
Que el Señor, en este tiempo de adviento, nos ayude a reformar aquellos puntos
que sean necesarios para que, cuando el venga, podamos presentarle un edificio espiritual irrefutable, limpio, convertido y volcado totalmente a su voluntad.
