Each year the Bishop mandates parishes to offer the VIRTUS program, a Safe Environment program for children, to all children who are enrolled in Faith Formation classes. This year, we will be offering the VIRTUS classes during your child(ren)’s scheduled K-5 Faith Formation classes the week of October 8-12th. The material is developmentally appropriate for grades K-5 and includes content and activities that reinforce the message. If you choose to send your child(ren) to class the week of October 8th, it is a St. Francis of Assisi policy that a parent/guardian MUST stay and attend this class with their child(ren). Adults who attend will receive yearly Safe Environment training renewal credit. This DOES NOT satisfy the Safe Environment New Volunteer Requirements.
Each class will meet in their regular classroom. If you have more than one child in a session, please attend the session in which your youngest child is assigned to with your children. Children will not be permitted to stay in the classrooms unattended by a parent or guardian.
Grades K-1 will be discussing Internet Safety by using the DVD "Faux Paw the Techno Cat" from the website www.ikeepsafe.org. We will be watching "Faux Paw Adventures on the Internet" and "Faux Paw meets the First Lady", both of which are available for you to view online. For further information, please refer to www.ikeepsafe.org
Grade 2 will be discussing “The Touching Rules”-Students learn simple rules about what to do and how to react when someone's touch is confusing, scary, or makes the child or young person feel uncomfortable. Young people start to deal with the real risks they face when they are out in the world and on their own, and they begin to learn where to draw boundary lines in relationships.
Grades 3-4 will be discussing "Power to Protect" by using the materials provided by DCAC Training Center (https://trainingcenter.net/product/parent-child-curriculum-package)
Grade 5 will be discussing "You are not alone" by using the materials provided by DCAC Training Center (https://trainingcenter.net/product/parent-child-curriculum-package)
We hope that you and your children will be able to join us for one of these sessions. However, it is your right as a parent to choose to personally review this topic at home with your child. If you choose to review this topic at home, please submit an opt-out by following this link:
